Peace Counts photo exhibition opens Ideal location: The photo exhibition “Peace Counts” is being shown directly on Shanghai’s main boulevard, the Bund, in space belonging to the municipal archives. The finest photographs from the book The Peacemakers are on display, arranged as a tour of eleven conflict regions worldwide. Renowned photographers Frieder Blickle (bilderberg), Paul Hahn (laif), and Uli Reinhardt (zeitenspeigel) contributed to the show. The exhibition is part of the Shanghai International Arts Festival. Dr. Wolfgang Schuster, the mayor of Stuttgart, opened the exhibition. He remarked that the photos illustrate in an impressive way “that individual people can make important contributions to peace.” He emphasized the important role played by civilians in peace processes and announced his intention to bring the show to Stuttgart and assist in its placement in New York.

Was wir wollen, was wir tun Das Netzwerk Friedenskooperative als informeller Dachverband von Friedens- und Menschenrechtsgruppen ist oft wichtiger Knotenpunkt und Koordinierungsstelle für außerparlamentarische Aktion und "Politik von unten". Immer wieder geht es um Widerstand gegen Krieg und Militär, Vorschläge und Projekte Ziviler Konfliktbearbeitung, Solidarität mit Flüchtlingen und um Menschen- und Bürgerrechte. Umfangreiche Informationen stellen wir auch bei den regelmäßigen Aktivitäten z.B. zu den jährlichen Ostermärschen, den Hiroshima- und Nagasaki-Tagen - 60 Jahre Atombombe, dem Antikriegstag und der Ökumenischen Friedensdekade zusammen. Im Jahr 2005 auch zu den vielen Aktivitäten zum 60sten Jahrestag der Befreiung.

Peace Support Structures One key requirement for successful peace processes are effective support structures that allow for sustained critical-constructive engagement between the key actors and strengthen their conflict transformation capacities. Peace support structures, such as peace secretariats, can support broader public elaboration of negotiation strategies and peace policies. They also might serve as separate communication channels and reference points for different key stakeholders (as in Sri Lanka) or form a more inclusive structure (as in South Africa). We consider the following structures as particularly important: * Peace Secretariats and (local) Peace Committees * Peace (Trust) Funds * Institutionalised Networks of Professional Peace Support Organizations * Groups of Friends/Groups of Eminent Persons (with respect to external support structures) * Truth and Reconciliation Commissions (usually after the signing of a peace agreement)
